The board games community has always been a minority in Hong Kong. As a board game maniac, it is only natural to try to get more people into our circle. However, in the process of doing so, I believe many have come across a lot of misunderstandings along the way. Below is a list of some of the misunderstandings we experienced. Will you agree with us?
1: Boardgame = for kids?
Buddy: Why do you like to play board games? Aren’t those things like Monopoly for kids?
EB:  Of course not! Many board games are very complicated and need a lot of thinking. Most are designed for adults, not just for kids!
2: Boardgame =werewolf?
Buddy: I love board games. We play werewolf all the time when me and my friends meet up.
EB: There are a lot more board games other than werewolf, such as party games, deduction games etc.
3: Boardgame =cheap=do not need much care
Buddy: These board games stuff are just paper, plastic or wood, which are cheap materials. So it’s okay to get new ones if they break.
EB: NOPE!A complicated board game can go up to a few thousand dollars. You can’t even put a price on some of the out of print board games. If one tiny component is broken or missing, in many cases, the game cannot be played. The owner can only buy a new set in order to continue playing.
Do you agree with the misunderstandings we’ve listed?
